Background info:
I composed this soundtrack for Tristan Behrens (Aztlan Games), a good old friend of mine, in spring/summer 2011. He had told me about his project „Vermes on Mars“ a few months earlier. At that moment the gameplay was at its beginning and there were just a few bots responding to the touch of his finger. Quite a good start, but everything else was still in its infancy. I felt totally in love with the look of the game on first sight: the industrial bots, the teethed vermes, its sci-fi style. I was really looking forward to this game being released.
At that moment there was neither any sound nor music. But because he was aware of my former work in the post pro sector he asked me to help him on „Vermes on Mars“. Under these conditions it was quite an honour and I couldn’t refuse. So I started to work out the first SFXs and music loops.
There was just a loose time schedule so I had time enough to work on it alongside my other occupations.
After we had finally finished „Vermes on Mars“ and released it early in August 2011 I realised the potential of its music. The playtime of each ingame loop was barely half a minute because they had been produced for an iOS game (we had tried hard to fall below 20MBs, while still offering high quality sound, music and graphics). So I decided to produce a subsequent official full-length soundtrack . It took me about a month to compose, expand and revalue everything up to the final state (you’re now hearing).
I wanted this OST to reach at least 35min of playtime. Now it even ends up over 40!
It was great to finish this project and after all I’m very pleased with it.
Everything worked fine at the end, and finally I got this dark sci-fi opus, which will hopefully get many fans.
I had been aiming high with APS in promoting “unique sound creations“. So I had to find a new approach to my work. I needed a totally new combination of musical genres to create a novelty in game music.
You will find nuances of electro, orchestral composition, dubstep, ambient, industrial, screaming and growling, narrator speech and so on – allthough I already used these elements in certain tracks I had never put them together like this before.
So at last I hope you will enjoy my work. Feel free to leave me some comments if you like.

For the gearheads:
You will hear certain hardware synths on the OST, but mostly the sounds were created with Alesis ION, Clavia Modular and Elektron SidStation .
Furthermore I used different samplers (hard- and software) for the Drums, SFX and the orchestral parts.
Trivia:
- The complete project was composed with Steinberg Cubase 6.
- The cymbals on track 02 “usurper” – right before the fist crescendo – were performed with drum-sticks on a hanging metal coffeepot.
- All vocals except the choir are my own voice: speaking, screaming, growling, breathing, whatever.
- Bot sounds (which can be heard ingame or on track 04) are a combination of 9 insert effects.
Tracklist:
01 – intro
02 – usurper
03 – dark orbit
04 – invaders must die
05 – underneath
06 – rising
07 – stroll over mars
08 – big muff
09 – dead end
10 – outro
